In 2011 Adam and I began our venture into breeding Square Meater cattle with a handful of cows and calves from Highbury Study and Bricklewood Stud. Via this page we hope to share with you our adventure into the world of Square Meater Cattle and the stories of our 'girls' along the way. Stay tuned!
Born and bred in North East Victoria, Emma & Adam did a stint in both Melbourne and Geelong before making the move back to Victoria's High Country in 2011.
Purchasing a small property in Hansonville in June 2011, it was only months before we purchased our first Square Meater breeders from Emma Joy in Fish Creek.
What started out as two 'ladies', soon became a passion (obsession?) and the herd significantly grew in size with further ladies joining the family from Yackandandah and New South Wales studs.
Predominately agisting land in both Greta and the King Valley we aim to focus on sustainable grazing and natural feeding program's ... a la grass and hay diets for the ladies. Feed lots? Heavy grain feeding? Not a chance.
We're young. Sure. But with plenty of enthusiasm and having grown up on farm's we understand whats required and focus our efforts on ensuring quality, sustainability and importantly, animal welfare.
In mid-2013 we registered the name, King Valley Premium Beef to begin the next chapter of our adventure - taking our beef to restaurants, markets and of course, direct to you!
Our aim is to showcase not only the Square Meater Breed to other primary producers, but to now allow the average family and also restaurants access to our premium beef.
Knowing exactly what our cattle are fed, how weeds are controlled on the property, how each animal is treated and how the literal farm-gate to plate process is undertaken is important to us. We assume its also important to you.
We've had many a farmer and interested person drop in to see us, meet the ladies and have a cuppa with us. It's the open and transparent nature of what we do that sets us apart. No hidden secrets. Just good ol' fashioned honest farming, striving to deliver quality products.
